Taking care of your skin and developing a skin care routine is important at any age.  Your skin works hard every day to protect your body from harmful elements and it’s important to educate yourself on how to protect and preserve your youthful glow. Do you want gorgeous skin in the decades to come? Apply sunscreen religiously.  Perhaps you’re noticing dryness for the first time? A daily moisturizer is a necessity.  Or maybe you’re one of the many 20-something women who suffer from acne, you may see that it’s moved from your forehead and midface to the jaw line, this could be an indication of hormonal changes and the breakout treatments you’re currently using may be too aggressive; it may be time to switch to a less drying routine. It may seem complicated and overwhelming but you really only need to get the basics down and you’ll see results!

Face Basics

Invest in a Cleanser, Moisturizer, Nighttime Treatment & Sun Screen

Create a skin care regiment/routine like the one below

Twice a day, cleanse your face. If you’re in a bind and can only do it once, opt for cleansing in evening.  Try to never sleep with your makeup on and use a non-soap face wash so you don’t strip your face of natural oils. If you have an oily complexion,  use a cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. For combination or dry skin (my skin type), try a creamy cleanser.

Apply a moisturizer daily (after cleansing) with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide and apply it all over your face, neck, décolleté, and your ears. Look for a moisturizer with broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection and SPF 30.

 Nighttime Treatment
Night time serum with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid will have a role in preventing fine lines and wrinkles. If you experience acne or already see signs of sun damage like sunspots (hyperpigmentation) use a prescription retinoid lotion or cream or a product containing retinol.

Invest in Masks & Facials at least every two months.  Your skin is an investment and needs your tender loving care, you won’t regret preserving it.
